Daniel Knowles is the creator of Progressive Vocal Techniques™, a research and evidence-based vocal pedagogy and techniques training system for singers and singing teachers.
Mr. Knowles has worked with local and international performing artist. He has trained singers in the popular fields, opera, and musical theater. He has trained stage, television, and movie actors in singing techniques. His students include singers that have gone on to major music and theater programs as well as graduates from major music and theater programs.
Mr. Knowles works with singers, their laryngologists and Speech-Language Pathologists to rehabilitate and retrain the singer’s damaged voice.
Mr. Knowles holds a Master of Arts degree in Music Education: Vocal/Choral Pedagogy and Performance from California State University, Los Angeles. At CSULA, Daniel researched the techniques and pedagogy of classical and non-classical singing. His master’s thesis, Classical and Non-classical Singing Techniques: Selecting and Integrating the Strengths of Each Approach, was published in 2007. Mr. Knowles also holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music: Vocal Pedagogy and Performance from California State University, Fullerton and An Associate of Arts Degree in Music: Vocal Performance from Rancho Santiago College, CA.
Mr. Knowles has trained in singing, actor’s voice, and speech-language pathology cross-disciplinary techniques such as the Estill Voice Training System™ and the Lessac Madsen Resonant Voice Therapy™. He has also studied the Alexander Technique™ during his undergraduate degree and has received seminar training in the Fitzmaurice Voicework™ method. He has also studied singing methods such as, Elisabeth Howard’s Vocal Power™ method and Lisa Popeil’s Voiceworks™ method, among others.
Mr. Knowles is a member of the National Association of Singing Teachers, The Voice Foundation, and the Voice and Speech Trainers Association.
